Stop Whining! Your Service Sucks! (an edgy conversation)

Let's be very clear about something. Horrible customer service is the fastest way to drive your dreams into bankruptcy.
No amount of whining, whimpering, and halfhearted excuse-making can remedy selfish behavior.
Sure -- the late 1990's brought us the age of "more selling, less service".  And that certainly sounds logical, right? After all we are emerging from the worst buying environment in more than eight decades.  It would seem that you need to "get out there" more than ever. It's that "Stop being an order taker and start being a whale hunter..."type of sales preaching. Admit it.  You've had a sales manager get "up in your business" telling you that you need...

Why Distraction is Your Biggest Enemy. [an edgy conversation]

Nothing will bankrupt your dreams for the future faster than distraction. Not lack of experience.  Not bad luck.  Not even the worst economic disaster in 80 years. It's you being distracted and it's guaranteed to rob you of everything you ever wanted for yourself. Take being a business owner for example.  I hate to tell you, but the odds aren't good to start with.
According to the best estimates, only one third of all businesses will ever make a profit.  Another third barely break even. And the rest never even get close.  According to a study by the U.S. Small Business Association only two thirds of businesses...

Why CNN is Stealing your Soul. [an edgy conversation]

Have you read every best selling business book in the last thirteen-and-a-half years and still feel like there's something missing? Like no matter how many times you step through the guaranteed success road map you just read about that you never really feel satisfied.  It's like your dreams are a mirage.  Your destiny is always another 12 months away. Your problem might be CNN. No.  Not Anderson Cooper, Larry King, or Nancy Grace. It's the entire news-delivery business.  The 7 o'clock news, the 11PM final cut, and the all the weekend special editions in between.  It's Fox News, CBS, and the Huffington Post political column. It's the populist sensationalism assaulting your senses...

Pain: How to Look Past the Shadows on the Wall. [an edgy conversation]

Pain is the primary driver for everything that we do (or don't do). It determines what we think about.  What we believe is possible. The problem with pain is that a lot of the time, it isn't anything physical. It's a process that changes over time. We stop twisting ankles, breaking bones, and getting bloody noses.  Right? We move from the playground to the battleground.  From the swing-set to the headset.
Where we scar our minds instead of our knees...
It's mental.  Not muscle. And while it looks like as a whole we are eliminating pain from our lives, nothing could be farther from the truth.  We're just better at hiding it from...

What Happened to Being “Outrageous”? [an edgy conversation]

Usually, being ordinary is a bad plan. Pursuing the path of least resistance means high-grade mediocrity and "close-to-but-just-not-there" success. You are active yet ineffective. Moving.... just not toward your dreams. If you have two minutes (and have 35 seconds), listen in as I explain the art of "outrageous". The Sales Art of Being Outrageous by Dan Waldschmidt What do you think? Do you feel a little closer to your dream?

How Tough (Really) Are You? [an edgy conversation]

We like to think that we're pretty tough.  In fact, if you back us into a corner (or up to the bar for too long), we might just tell you how tough we really think we are. We're like the blowfish of the sales sea.  Instead of swimming harder, we puff up -- hoping to scare away any logical questioning of our lackluster activity. And it's to our own disadvantage.  Instead of being tough, we specialize in passion aggression and bluster. So here's a questions for you: "How tough are you really?" The answers becomes more clear when we hear about guys like Roy.
On 2 May...

Edgy Conversations: Depression, Dreams, and Destiny.

Ever feel like one of these plastic figurines you beat down at the Mack-A-Mole game at Chuck E Cheese?  Ever feel like the "game" is you getting your head beat in by everyone around you? Like life is rigged to keep you down.  Like there's a plan to keep you away from your dreams Let's have an edgy conversation about that. If you haven't felt that way yet (like you get smacked around no matter what you do), hold on to this article because chances are you are headed to a collision with reality.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, right now more than 33 million Americans are...

Edgy Conversations: Why Success Needs to Hurt First.

Because that's the only way you'll listen. That's the only way to get you out of your own way and on the path to extraordinary... Here's  a harsh reality.  Being edgy -- living on the edge of outrageous opportunity hurts like hell at times.  Especially when you first decide to get started and extend yourself.  When you step out and decide to live the impossible. Success is gut-busting endeavor.  The hurt is what prepares you for success.
In 1930, the 23 year old Freddie Chapman led a British expedition to Greenland.  He experienced such ferocious cold that he lost all his finger and toe nails.  He got lost at sea and spent 20 hours...

Edgy Conversations: Stupid People. How to deal with them.

You can't live life without running into stupid people. And not just running into these people-- them purposefully running unto you. It's the single biggest demotivating force on the face of the earth. There is NOTHING more crippling than an awkward, unanticipated encounter with a stupid person. In seconds, a stupid person can strip you of decades of dream hunting -- leaving you confused, shaken, and emotionally spent. Whatever you do. Whatever you aspire to be. Wherever you want to be someday. You need to master the art of dealing with stupid people.

Get good at spotting them.

"Stupid people are like suicide bombers....

Edgy Conversations: It Takes Effort. That’s Why It Hurts.

There is no Easy Street. Sure, growing up in Northern Virginia there was an actual road off Route 1 called Easy St. close to where I used to get my hair cut once a month. (Ironically -- it was in the bad part of town.) There is no easy way to do amazing things. If it's easy to do then it can't really be amazing. Those two things are as different as night and day.

"Easy" is the reward of mediocrity.

Having it easy is the reward you get for high-performance mediocrity. "Grade A" average showmanship. It's should scare you when you think you are doing something amazing and...

Edgy Conversations: It’s the Details that Matter.

Getting the big picture figured out is pretty easy. We call that "having a dream"... It's the edgy details that determine our ultimate fate.  Whether we "make it". It's if you decide to "just send the email" or take the time to reread it for the 14th time. And it's fatigue that stops us.  We just get too tired to care any more.

We're so busy dreaming the dream that we forget that everyone else is dreaming too.

And in a battle of dreams, everyone loses. Why?  Because the dream is the fuel, not what really matters.

Your dream is only as good as your will to...
